Because carpet beetle larvae are bigger than bed bugs you may be more likely to see the beetles themselves. Their larvae are covered in bristly hairs and are tapered in shape similar to a carrot or they can be more oval in shape. To know where to focus the brunt of your cleaning first look for the primary source of the infestation which will be the area with the most signs of damage and beetles.

Carpet beetles look very very different from bed bugs when they are larger. The carpet beetle is referred to as the anthrenus verbasci that grows from 1 7 mm to a maximum of 3 5 mm.
Varied carpet beetles and furniture carpet beetles have multi colored scales as adults. Larvae typically are light brown to black and covered in dense sometimes barbed hairs. Varied carpet beetles are black. Their larvae are grublike and covered with hairs.
