What is the liner side of vinyl. In many if not most iron on vinyls the vinyl side is matte and the carrier side is shiny. Load the vinyl into your machine and then press the flashing button to cut out your design from the window cling. Whatever mat and machine you are using put your adhesive vinyl paper backing side down onto your mat so the colored vinyl side is facing up see image below. Cut your vinyl to fit your mat.
With the computer and dial settings adjusted load the window cling onto your mat just as you would standard vinyl with the liner side down and the window cling surface up. It s the shinny side. The printable vinyl i have used didn t have issues sticking to the mat. For my decal i decided to use expressions vinyl series 31 removable vinyl in bright berry.
If your vinyl came on a roll you can cut off a piece to fit on your mat. You want to cut the vinyl side. Place vinyl liner side down. They come stuck together when you receive them virtually indistinguishable.
Peel away the vinyl liner at a 45 degree angle. It s usually the shiniest side and you use a very sticky mat. If you can get your tool under a layer of vinyl and pull it back then that s the side you should be cutting. Pick a side of the sheet that you suspect might be the cut side e g the white side of the sheet of red htv.
Use a craft stick or scraper found in the cricut tool kit to burnish rub or polish the tape onto the vinyl. If the vinyl does not separate from the liner simply burnish the transfer tape onto the vinyl and peel away again. In the photo below you can see the liner peeling away from the iron on design. A kiss cut is a cut that only goes through the vinyl and leaves the liner intact.
Load mat into your machine. Regular vinyl typically has a grid on the back and does not have a liner. There is a layer of plastic that will be peeled away. You can tell iron on vinyl from regular vinyl by the front liner.
The shiny side is the liner and the dull side is the heat activated side that you will adhere to an object. Take your weeding tool and scrape dig in the corner of the sheet. If you get nothing on the page then you know that is not printable side and that is the side that goes down on the mat. Use a kiss cut when cutting vinyl.
